(Bekah) In preparation for this birth I spent about 18 months reading and researching the various options for birth after cesarean. I looked into repeat cesarean section (RCS), vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), hospital birth, and home birth. After learning about the risks that accompany each choice, I didn’t like any of the options and felt unable to come to a decision. So Darin and I took it to God in prayer, and through scripture and conviction we were led to choose a home birth. Once the decision was made, I had more peace concerning birth than I had had since becoming pregnant with Linnea!
God is the only reason she was born without major complications, and at home. We chose a home birth because we wanted to have a natural, drug free birth, and the hospitals in our area are not supportive of this idea. We also knew our midwife personally before we chose her, so we had some positive history with our caretaker. Here is our story:

Lana is Michele’s first baby. Michele began early labor on a Saturday morning and it progressed slowly and steadily through the weekend. I was with her at 1pm on Sunday for her normally scheduled prenatal, then I arrived at her home again around nine that evening after they called again. Dr. Yoon had come twice during early labor to administer acupuncture, which I think helped make her birth experience peaceful, with the baby in just the right position. Lana was born after 6 or 7 hours of active labor, with no internal exams or other interventions. It was beautiful to watch Michele birthing her child at home with the strong support of her husband. She was able to walk around, stand in the hot shower, and lean on Chris while her body worked to bring Lana into the world.

Rebecca sent in her birth story to add to my new site. She had an amazing homebirth last November. When she called I rushed directly to her house, knowing that with her fifth child she could have a very short labor. Upon arrival I grabbed my gear and ran in, finding the baby already resting peacefully in his mother’s arms! Henry is Rebecca’s 5th child and came more quickly than she expected, but she knew what she was doing.
